1/48 Scale USS Monitor from France
10/16/8 at 17:19:59

Alain Teneze sent in these photos of his 1/48 scale USS Monitor, built from scratch.

As you can see, Alain is casting his own armor plates for the structure to reduce the amount of tedious, repetitive work - good idea!

Another update from Alain, he has finished one of the Dahlgreen guns and painted the upperworks with Tamiya TS-38 gun metal paint

The progress is inspected by Alain's cat, Bouboule

The Monitor looks amazing what a true scale model…I have only one question. Why would anyone do a model of a 1/48 cat? Grin Roll Eyes

Beautiful work, but I have a couple observations.

First, I believe the turret roof should be made of closely space iron bars, not planked wood. The bars provided protection from plunging shot while letting light and air in and powder smoke out. An awning was fitted over the turret to provide protection from extreme sunlight and rain.

Second, the deck bolt heads should be ground down flat to the deck. This is validated by no visible protruding boltheads in any contemporary photos of the deck.
