Oragnizing subjects

Dear Folks,

This post died when the WMU site crashed, again, a while back.  I see the same topics posted over and over again.  Can we subdivide the Tabs any further so as to group all the ESC, Motors, Paint, Glue, Material, Flags, Radios, etc in one place so all that info can be easily found?
Please don't eat my post again, WMU!

I could make a Frequently asked Question (or Frequently Accessed Information) category, and within it create topics for the various categories that you asked about.

I would have to edit it pretty heavily to keep it useful, try and condense the relevant information without the back and forth that usually accompanies any topic.

Perhaps you can give me an idea of what you would consider an ideal post on any of those topics.

Let's see what everyone's thoughts are on the subject

If I am looking for something I try a "search" first, followed by a scout through the gallery to try an grasp an idea of what I am wanting from there.

A section maybe entitled something along the lines of "build materials" or something and then split into ESC, Motors, Paint, Glue, Material, Flags, Radios, etc  would be very useful and make finding things easier.

Take the recent question of the 2.5GHz RC, if somebody comes later they would quickly find the info if there was a "Radio" sub-section....

Idea sounds great to me but whether it is practical to run with regards to time and effort required, is beyond my experience. That ones down to you Kurt!

While this is a great idea and it would be helpful, it would take too much time and effort on the part of Kurt and he has already given us enough in my opinion.

I am planning on doing a major overhaul this winter of the message board (perhaps the main site, time permitting).  One of the things I will be doing will involve changing servers, as they simply cannot fix the occasional outages that have plagued us for the past couple of years.  I have been avoiding this because it will mean reloading the entire site, not just the board, but I think it will be worth it in the long run.

So, if everyone will take a look at the tug forum posted by Duane, let me know what you like - and don't like - about it.  I can incorporate the suggestions into the new site.

My concern is not to make the board too big or cluttered so that it becomes a chore to look at it, but still keep in functional for everyone.

This is the time to make your preferences heard, so fire away!

Dear Folks,

Duane, good link on the tugboat site.  Their organization is something like what I would like.
Charles, thank you for your concern about how Kurt spends his time.  Perhaps Kurt should be the final arbiter in such matters.
One simple way to organize things is to look through thread titles.  Find a common theme (i.e, motors, ESCs), create a subcategory of that theme, and collect all previous threads into that part.  Posters will select that subcategory almost INSTINCTIVELY!
Perhaps builds should be in two types.  Those that are "how to" should be here.  Those that are, "Wow! What a build! Woo-Hoo!!" should be on the main site.
If changing servers will end the frequent crashes, please hurry that along!
Rcgroups.com may be what WMU looks like after changing.  It is broad (lots of Themes) and shallow (only two subdivisions).

I myself prefer less tabs.  I do not like the other sites with way too many subdivisions.  If someone is looking for something, a question in the main discussion area usually results in an answer and links to threads and sites related to the question.  I'm all for less crashes, but leave the format alone, I think it is working great.
While Kurt does get to decide how he will spend his time, we should all be grateful and considerate.  I cannot thank him enough for this site and anyone that wants a better one can have a go at making one.

For myself I do like things to be more easily catagorised, I don't like to feel that I am bothering people by asking questions about something that is already posted (although I have also yet to see a single sarcastic comment form anybody just because somebody couldn't find an existing link).

I do agree that we should not expect too much of Kurt, likewise I also feel that its also up to Kurt as to how much he wants to do, and to what level. I feel that he has always looked after us well in the past and I am sure that he will continue to do so!

People can ask for what they want and then Kurt can decide - its his site afterall!!!!

As for the crashes, quite a relief to be honest, I was getting close to heaving the PC out of the window (10th floor) due to those as I thought that it was at this end!!
