LPD-21 USS New York - My Lucky Opportunity!

Hello All,
Don't ask me how, but on November 1st I got the first class treatment to board the USS New York! I was flown out to the USS New York on a CH-46 Chinook helicopter! That was a rush! Then landed on the ship and spent the night. I also was aboard while sailing down the Hudson river. They let me run a muck all over the place. I watched LCAC come into the bay at night and Helicopters land. Needless to say my model of the USS New York is now getting some edits. I will post my progress of the model on the build board once I start making more progress. In the meantime, please check out some photos. It was a COLD morning and reveille was at 4AM to the soothing sound of Frank Sinatra, New York.

Reply #2 - 11/03/9 at 14:00:59 The big rotor-blade which is only partially on the photo and of which only the engine is visible looks like the ones on the V22 Osprey, is that right? Are they having Osprey's on board? Sounds like a very nice experience to me, would had liked to be there too. Greetings Josse

Yes, you are correct. It has BOTH the CH-53 Sea Stallion and MV-22 Osprey. 2 CH-46 Chinooks LANDED while those were also on deck. I was on the Chinook when we landed. In the helicopter bay area, there was a Sea Cobra and a Huey. Everything set up for display. They moved the Osprey when I was getting off. I filmed that just for kicks. The USS New York is now at Pier 88 and viewable by public from the 4th to 10th. Commissioning is the 7th. I just got home and I'm going through all my "stuff".

Lots of video on youtube out there. Here is a link for flicker photos of LPD-21. Great videos of the aircraft arrival currently displayed on the ship also here... Video is from the helicopter bay on the port side of the ship where the air boss is located. Just to the right of the helicopter bay.
